Frequently Asked Questions
For users and administrators of Bloomsbury Architecture Library (BAL):
How will our access to Bloomsbury Architecture Library change? Will redirects be set up?
If your institution has purchased or subscribed to Bloomsbury Architecture Library, you still have access to that content – the new home for both the BAL core collection and Architecture Design and Practice Online will be Bloomsbury Visual Arts. These will sit alongside our other visual arts collections which migrated to the hub earlier this year.
In order to support customers who have bookmarked the current URLs, for example in library catalogue systems or in reading lists, as well as search engines and discovery and indexing databases, we will set up URL redirects for all pages.
This will mean that links to content pages (e.g. to articles, books, key buildings, museum objects) and also links to Research and Learning resources will redirect to the corresponding page on the new Bloomsbury Visual Arts site.
Please note the redirects will live in our platforms indefinitely. DOIs will continue to point to the new platform too. This means that if you are using our MARC records (which include DOI URLs), you need not be concerned about the URLs. If you are using your own MARC records or are bookmarking pages using the OLD platform URLs, you are covered by the redirects.
Additionally, please allow 48 hours for the redirects and DOIs to change to point at the new site.
Will there be any changes to usage statistics (COUNTER reports)?
When BAL migrates to Bloomsbury Visual Arts (BVA) to become part of the main site, it will no longer have their own URL/domain for COUNTER purposes. It will be a database within Bloomsbury Visual Arts on the COUNTER 5 Database reports instead.
All BAL COUNTER usage will come via the BVA COUNTER API key and any COUNTER 5 usage prior to the migration will be available under a separate BAL site entry.
Will there be any changes to EZProxy?
Any Bloomsbury Visual Arts customers using EZProxy need to ensure that they have both the Geoplugin and Bloomsbury Visual Arts stanzas in their EZProxy config.txt as listed below.
Existing customers of Bloomsbury Architecture Library should update their config.txt file to include both the Geoplugin and Bloomsbury Visual Arts stanzas as shown below.
Please add the EZProxy stanzas for Bloomsbury Visual Arts to your EZProxy config.txt:
Title GEOPlugin (updated 20200423)
Host https://ssl.geoplugin.net
HJ ssl.geoplugin.net
Title Bloomsbury Visual Arts
URL https://www.bloomsburyvisualarts.com/
HJ www.bloomsburyvisualarts.com

Will institutions still be able to renew their subscription to BAL?
Yes, BAL will still be available to purchase via subscription or on a perpetual access basis after each collection has migrated to the main Bloomsbury Visual Arts hub.
Will institutions still be able to renew their subscription to BAL?
Users will still be able to log in to their personal accounts on Bloomsbury Visual Arts.
Saved content items in personal accounts will not be retained when BAL moves over to Bloomsbury Visual Arts – unless those links were previously saved as bookmarks in their browser.
Saved search items will not be retained when BAL moves over to Bloomsbury Visual Arts. Search results are different on the new platform, as users are able to see search results from multiple products if they would like.
