John Macarthur is Director of the Research Centre for Architecture, Theory, Criticism and History (ATCH) at the University of Queensland, Australia, where he also teaches architectural design. His research focuses on the intellectual history of architecture. He has edited four books and published over 120 papers including contributions to the journals Assemblage, Transition, Architecture Research Quarterly, OASE, and the Journal of Architecture. His major work, The Picturesque: Architecture, Disgust and Other Irregularities, was published by Routledge in 2007. Two books edited with colleagues were published in 2015: The Baroque in Architectural Culture, 1880–1980 (Ashgate) and Hot Modernism: Queensland Architecture 1945–1975 (Artifice).
